How to remove wound packing painlessly?
Wound packing removal tips are as essential as that first aid kit on your shelf. As the wound dries out or with the gradual healing of the wound, the wound bed tends to dry. This results in the dressing sticking closer and firmer to your skin, making the removal thing a bit more difficult.
Easing out the pain, while removing your wound packing is crucial. It saves the tissues and the skin around the area from being in trouble for the second time. If you are thinking about how to remove wound packing painlessly — there are some tactics, and here’s a walkthrough…
#1: Saline solution
Medical tapes stick to your skin with the help of some adhesive. Saline solution or the solution used for your contact lens aids in loosening up the glue and other packing elements. Pour some of it (either of the two solutions) on the dressing and let it soak for about 10 minutes. The gauze, and especially, the medical tape that binds the entire dressing, is now pulled off with ease!
#2: Pull off the skin gradually
Apply this trick, it truly helps! Instead of pulling off the dressing from the skin, reverse the process — pull the skin gradually away from the packing. Start from one corner of the medical tape. Catch hold of a tiny portion of one of the edges of the tape and press the skin below it such that it no longer clings to the tape! Do this slowly until the packing comes off easily.
Remember, pulling your skin hurts less than pulling the foreign object (the dressing) away from your skin!
#3: Adhesive removers and analgesics
Administering a controlled number of analgesics or pain controllers is advisable. NSAIDs may be taken prior to undressing your wound. For the PSAs (pressure-sensitive adhesives), silicone-based adhesive removers are the most suited.
Go slower and slower — as slow as possible — to do away with the adhesion of your wound packing.
